Fairytale – Wedding Theme Wednesday

FAIRYTALE WEDDING

The Fairytale Wedding

What little girl doesn’t dream of a fairytale wedding? A beautiful dress, a horse drawn carriage, woodland creatures to help you get dressed whilst singing a merry tune. Ok, that last bit might be a little far fetched, but with this theme you can go all out, or take simple elements to give a subtle feel of enchantment to your day.

My Top 5 Buys

1.Fairytale Wedding Favours – £96.15 for 100 from Fairyland Bazaar

These little seed favours are packaged so sweetly, I couldn’t ignore them.

2. Outdoor Light Flower Garland – £36 from Heal’s

I have a soft spot for fairy lights, and they are obviously appropriate for this theme! There should definitely be twinkling lights at a fairytale wedding, as well as pretty flowers, and these would kill 2 birds with one stone!

3. Poisoned Apple Necklace – £15.38 from Whimsy Daisy Designs

This cute snow white apple pendant would look lovely on the bridesmaids.

4. Once Upon a Time – Hand Carved Stamp –  £5.45 from TC Witchcraft Factory

I think stamps are so useful, especially if you are planning to make your own save the date cards or invites, this ‘once upon a time’ stamp would really come in handy!

5.Diamante Embellished Ballerina Shoes – £75 from Dune

Glass is a little impracticle, and lets face it, downright dangerous. I have no idea how Cinderella didn’t slice her tiny feet apart. Anyway, I have chosen a slighly safer version of the classic glass slipper, in this beautiful diamante shoe from Dune.

The Dress Collection

If you want  a dress that truly makes you feel like a princess, take a look at Alfred Angelo’s collection of Disney Bridal gowns, they are breathtaking. My favourite is Belle (who is also my favourite Disney princess!) I have actually tried this dress on, and although it wasn’t the style I was going for, it almost convinced me to change my mind!Disney Wedding Dress Alfred Angelo

The Venue

Are you searching for the perfect fairytale castle?  Chateau de Challain in France has got to be the closest you can get. Check out those turrets!

The Blog Post

I love this blog post from b.loved, which takes inspiration from classic fairytale princesses; Belle, Cinderella and Snow White, for 3 stunning wedding shoots. Subtle, but so beautifully done!

I hope you were inspired by todays Fairytale themed wedding post. Which fairytale character would you choose to theme your wedding on?

1950’s – Wedding Theme Wednesday

1950s Wedding Theme

A 1950’s Themed Wedding

A 50’s wedding is bright and kitsch. You can run riot with girly patterns, as polka dots, checks and floral all float the 50’s boat! If you’re going the American route you might take inspiration from the 50’s diner and offer hot dogs, burgers, wafflees and ice cream sundaes for your wedding breakfast. And lets not forget the milkshakes for the kids! Music will play an important part, as will dancing, so make sure your dance floor is big enough for all of your guests!

My Top 5 Buys

1. Black Birdcage Veil – £10 from Accessorize

Bridal head pieces can cost a fortune, if you are trying to save your pennies and are having an alternative wedding, this could be just the ticket!

2. Retro Music Player – £149.95 from Not On The High Street

Imagine having one of these retro styled music players playing your favourite 50’s tunes while you mingle with your guests during cocktail hour. Listen to Vinyl, CD’s and you can even plug in your USB stick!

3. Retro Sunglasses – £59.94 from FAB

If you are expecting a sunny day, these retro glasses are just the Bees Knees, I love the colours.

4. 1950’s Halterneck Dress – £89 from Vivien Of Holloway

Vivien Of Holloway does some fabulous 50’s frocks that would be great for bridesmaids!

5. Popcorn Boxes – $17.97 for 50 from Amazon

I love these little popcorn boxes, I think that would make a really cute favour. Or you could have them at a snack bar so people could carry their popcorn to the dance floor!

The Dress Shop

Candy Anthony creates some amazing, unique wedding dresses. Have a look at their gallery of real brides for some inspiration.

The Entertainment

50s-tribute-band

There are some fantastic 50’s tribute bands out there that can really turn your wedding into a blast from the past. Look out for The Bluebirds (pictured above),The Jets and Lipstick On His Collar.

Another idea is to hire a jukebox, so that you can lean up against it and do your best impression of The Fonze, “Aaaaeeeyyy!”

The First Dance

Why not pick a 50’s classic like Earth Angel by The Penguins or Dream Lover by Bobby Darin, both stunning songs.

The DIY Tutorial

I  absolutely love this rainbow petticoat tutorial shared on Rock N Roll bride. If you want to add a little bit of colour to your wedding dress this is a fab way of doing it!

Would you consider a 50’s style wedding?

DIY Wedding Favour – Fortune Teller

Personalised Fortune Tellers

Here’s a great idea to keep your guests entertained before dinner. Personalised fortune tellers!

Beautiful wedding favour on the cheap

So, all you really need to know is how to fold it, then we can get creative!

Making a Fortune TellerMaking a Fortune TellerMaking a Fortune TellerMaking a Fortune TellerMaking a Fortune Teller

How to make it

  • First you need to make your piece of paper square. To do this fold the corner across as in pic 1 and then cut off the excess rectangle of paper.
  • Next fold your piece of paper in half in the other direction. You should now have a square piece of paper that has 4 triangles on it.
  • Now turn the paper so that it is curing upwards, rather than sitting like a pyramid. Fold each corner into the centre. You will now have a smaller square with 8 triangles on it.
  • Turn the paper over, this side should look like it had 4 squares on it. Now fold each corner into the centre again. When you’re done it should look like a square with 8 triangles on it again.

Vintage inspired LOVE themed fortune teller

So here’s a couple of ideas what you can do with them. First of all is a ‘Love’ themed fortune teller. Perfect for revealing little facts about the couple. Scroll past the pictures to find out how I made it.

DIY wedding favour idea

A DIY Fortune Teller Wedding Favour A wedding favour idea for your guests

To make this cute, vintage inspired fortune teller you will need;

  • A piece of coloured paper
  • A piece of floral patterned paper
  • ‘Love’ sequins
  • An old dressmaking pattern

First off I cut my floral paper slightly smaller than my plain square, then i stuck it down in the centre with glue. Next I folded my paper into the fortune teller, when I was done I stuck on my little ‘Love’ sequins. I then cut out numbers from an old dressmaking pattern (you may want to photocopy these if you are making lots!). You can write whatever you like on the inside, but I would suggest little facts about the couple would be a sweet way to let your guests know a little more about them.

‘Mad Hatters Tea Party’ Fortune Teller

Here is a bonkers idea perfect for a mad hatters tea party!

Fortune Teller Wedding Favour

Do I? I do wedding fortune teller

Fortune Teller Wedding Favour

To make this Alice in Wonderland themed fortune teller you will need;

Here is a slightly less time consuming way to make a fortune teller. Simply fill in the blanks on the template and print off! The one I have made has the words ‘I DO’ on the outside, and the options on the inside flaps spell out ‘Why is a raven like a writing desk?’ – the famous Mad hatter riddle that never had an answer! Alternatively you could write riddles on these, then write the answers on the inside. Below are some ideas for riddles that may be fitting for the occasion.

Q. I never was, am always to be. No one ever saw me, nor ever will. And yet I am the confidence of all, To live and breathe on this terrestrial ball. What am I?

A. The Future

Q. If you break me I do not stop working,If you touch me I may be snared,If you lose me nothing will matter.

A. Your Heart

Q. What starts with a T, ends with a T, and has T in it?

A. A teapot

Q. A mile from end to end, yet as close to you as a friend. A precious commodity, freely given. Seen on the dead and on the living. Found on the rich, poor, short and tall, but shared among children most of all. What is it?

A. A smile

Q. Two words is my answer. In order to keep me, you have to give me. What am I?

A. Your word

Q. What holds two people together but touches only one?

A. A wedding ring

Q. I go in dry and come out wet, The longer I’m in, the stronger I get. What am I?

A. A tea bag

Origami Hearts – DIY Wedding Favour Ideas

Origami Hearts

Here’s DIY kit number 2. This one is quicker to do than my first kit on knitted letters, and could be used in a variety of ways to make your wedding day look spectacular! Its Origami hearts!

Origami Wedding Favours

These are really simple to make once you’ve done a few, and why not speed up the job by getting your bridesmaids involved in an ‘origami afternoon’. All you need is a piece of paper! Heres a few ideas on how to use them;

  • Hang them on string as an alternative to bunting.
  • Write your guests names on them and use them as cute place settings that your guests can take home as a momento of the day.
  • Make small ones and scatter them on the tables as confetti.

Or if you can’t be bothered to make them yourself, why not get your guests to do it! Provide each table with instructions and a variety of colours of paper. You could even ask that guests write their messages to the happy couple inside (instead of a guestbook), then have them hung up somewhere or pinned to a cork board. This would provide a great talking point and keep your guests entertained while they are waiting for food.

The instructions can be found at Bijoux Brides, if you would like to see them please go to http://www.bijouxbride.com/pretty-project-3-origami-hearts
